Visiting Japan, or working with Japan

Some people come to Japan for a journey. Others want something that lasts beyond a trip, a piece made for them, the maker behind it, or a working relationship with Japanese makers and small businesses. Whichever brings you here, what we offer is the same thing: people we already know, and an introduction that carries our name.

Japan Travel

Your journey is designed from a conversation, not chosen from a menu: tell us what draws you to Japan and we build the days around it. Our founder works daily with Japanese makers through the Takumi Masters Collective, so we can arrange time in an artisan's studio or a visit to a regional maker through people who already know them, rather than a listing. Most of our guests are professionals with limited time who want depth over a checklist, so we handle the language, the introductions, and the arrangements and leave you free to pay attention. Private travel is our usual work, and we arrange journeys for groups within Japan as well.

Working with Japan

If you want more than a trip

Some people want a connection with Japan that outlasts a visit: a piece of Japanese craft to own or commission, the maker behind it, or a working relationship with the people who produce here. All of it begins the same way, with a name and a door that is already open to us.

Takumi Masters Collective

An invitation only collective of Japanese artisans, produced by Wellnethy. Our founder has met every master in person, in their own workshop, and invited them on the strength of the work rather than their reputation or scale. Nothing reaches the collective through an agent or a catalogue.

Through the collective you can commission a new piece made for you, acquire an existing work, or ask us to introduce you to the master directly. The fields represented at present include kintsugi and decorative calligraphy, and the collective grows only as our founder meets makers worth adding.

Introductions to Japan's makers and small businesses

If you are looking for a partnership, a source of Japanese made goods, or a collaborator here, we act as the introduction and as the bridge afterwards. We work with Japan's makers and small businesses every day, in Japanese, which is why a request from us reaches people who do not answer enquiries from abroad. Our founder spent around twenty years inside Japanese companies in finance, sales, and contracts, so he understands how an agreement is reached here and where a conversation is likely to stall.

We do not sell a programme, and we do not handle legal or immigration matters. What we offer is a door that opens and someone standing between the two sides while it stays open. Start with a conversation and tell us what you are hoping to build.

For makers inside Japan

If you make things by hand in Japan, we run a separate service in Japanese. Craft DX Partner supports artisans and small studios with online shops, everyday communication, and welcoming customers from abroad.
